ROG Strix Scar 17

  • Asus has revealed three new ROG gaming laptops at CES.
  • One of them is supposedly the first in the world to sport a 360Hz display.
  • The company also announced an interesting “interactive experience.”

At its virtual event at CES 2021, Asus took the wraps off three new ROG gaming laptops and an interactive experience called ROG Citadel XV.

Let’s start with the most interesting device, the ROG Strix Scar 17. Asus claims it’s the first gaming laptop in the world to feature a display with a 360Hz refresh rate. The panel offers Full HD resolution and sports a response time of just 3ms. It also offers plenty of power, with the highest-end model packing the AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX CPU, GeForce RTX 3080 graphics, and 64GB of RAM.

The laptop sports a quad-speaker setup and supports Dolby Atmos for a better sound experience. Its battery comes in at 90Wh, which is said to be good for around 12 hours of video playback on a single charge. The battery supports fast charging and is compatible with 100‑watt USB-C power adapters. There’s also an optical-mechanical keyboard with per-key RGB lighting, a trackpad that’s 85% larger than that of its predecessor, and a refined cooling system.

ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 SE

Next up we have the ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 SE, which comes with the ROG ScreenPad Plus — a secondary screen above the keyboard. It can be used to browse the web, chat with friends via messaging apps, record gameplay, and much more.

The laptop is powered by up to an AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX CPU and Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 graphics. You can get it with either a 120Hz 4K display or a 300Hz Full HD screen, depending on whether you prefer a higher resolution or a refresh rate. It also comes with an improved cooling system that increases airflow by 13% over the previous generation.

ROG Flow X13

The last new model in Asus’ gaming lineup is the ROG Flow X13, a 13-inch laptop that can be customized with up to an AMD Ryzen 9 5980HS CPU and Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 graphics. It can also be paired with XG Mobile, which is an external GPU with Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 graphics.

You can expect around 10 hours of gaming on a single charge, and thanks to the included 100-watt USB-C PD charger, you can get the battery from zero to 60% in around 40 minutes. You can also choose between a 4K or a Full HD 120Hz display that can be flipped 360-degrees.

Pricing and availability haven’t been announced yet.

What exactly is ROG Citadel XV?

The ROG Citadel XV is an interactive experience that introduces users to the ROG gaming universe and the brand’s heritage. It takes you through an underground fortress where you can experience and learn more about the latest ROG products. You are guided through various Cyberpunk-inspired laboratories that are designed around the themes of Vanguard, Fusion, and Rebel.

Once you get through the fortress, the fun begins. You get to play a mini first-person shooter in which you have to take down moving 3D targets. To learn a bit more about the ROG Citadel XV, check out the short trailer above.
