  • A leak appears to show a flat display on the Galaxy S21 Plus.
  • It also illustrates how the two-tone design could look in real life.
  • Samsung is expected to reveal more on January 14.

Samsung appears poised to join Apple and others in ditching curved screens on at least some of its high-end phones. YouTuber Mauri QHD has posted what he claims are real-life photos of the Galaxy S21 Plus, and they suggest you’ll get a truly flat display on the larger (but not largest) 2021 flagship.

While some leaks have hinted the Galaxy S21 Plus might have a flat display, this leaves little doubt if it’s accurate — there’s not even a hint of that “2.5D” glass you’ve seen on other phones. The scoop also offers a peek at how the rumored two-tone purple and gold body might look in the real world.

It’s not certain if the Galaxy S21 Ultra will share the flat display of the Plus, but the smaller standard S21 is expected to have a curve-free screen as well. All three are poised to have 120Hz refresh rates, although regular S21 and S21 Plus owners might have to settle for 1080p output instead of 1440p.

Mauri QHD has a relatively unproven track record, but the photos both appear authentic and are consistent with the leaks that have emerged so far.

You might not have to wait long to learn the full story. Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy S21 series on January 14, with availability by the end of that month. The Plus model might even be relatively accessible with a reported $1,049 starting price versus the $1,200 of its S20 Plus predecessor. If these details are accurate, it could be easy to leave your curved-screen phone firmly in the past.
