Nomadland (February 19)
Frances McDormand plays a woman who gets laid off from her job. Unable to find any new job prospects, she decides to simply start driving around the country, living as a modern-day nomad. This movie, while fictional, does include real nomads who actually embrace this lifestyle of living off the grid of civilization. It also includes some spectacular photography of the American west.
The United States vs. Billie Holiday (February 26)
Lee Daniels, the director of Precious and The Butler, directed this biopic of the famed blues singer Billie Holiday. However, this movie is a tad different as it focuses on how the federal government sought to take down Holiday due to some of her songs, which focused on civil rights. The FBI actually hired its first black agent so he could get close to Holiday, but he ends up falling in love with her.
Into the Dark: Tentacles (February 12)
After a bit of a hiatus, the monthly horror anthology Into the Dark returns with this Valentine’s Day-themed story. A man falls fast in love with a woman he only recently met. However, he soon starts to get sick and begins to hallucinate things. Is this new love to blame? Or is something else going on?
